Course Details

  • This course looks at the law relevant to safeguarding. This course provides learners with an understanding of why safeguarding measures are required.
  • We recommend that you complete the full series of training courses in this subject to ensure you have all required information to support you in this area.
  • Once you have completed this course, please move to Safeguarding Level 2 (Part 2): Recognising the Signs of Neglect, Abuse, or Harm.
  • You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment. If you achieve 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a certificate for your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.

Aims

The aim of this course is to ensure dental professionals understand the law relevant to safeguarding and understand why safeguarding measures are required. 

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Understand the terms 'safeguarding' and 'abuse'.
  • Describe why we need safeguarding measures in practice.
  • Refer to the specific laws and guidance surrounding safeguarding children and adults at risk.
  • Understand the GDC, CQC and HIW standards and competencies in relation to safeguarding.
  • Describe local multi-agency arrangements for safeguarding.

Learning Outcomes

 After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:
