Objectives

By the end of this module you will be able to:

• Define dental caries and be aware of its history and incidence
• List sites where caries occurs
• Explain the development of caries
• Give simple advice to patients on preventing caries
• Conduct simple experiments to demonstrate how an acid attack occurs
• Describe studies linking caries and the consumption of fermentable carbohydrate
