Course Details

  • The aim of this course is to provide dental staff with an understanding of the range of medical emergencies which can present in a dental setting and how this information should be applied in their daily working lives.
  • You will be presented with a coursebook followed by an assessment with options for feedback and reflection.
  • Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a certificate to download.
  • If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.

Aims

The aim of this course is to provide dental staff with an understanding of medical emergenceis and how this information should be applied in their daily working lives.

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Perform CPR on adults and children.
  • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • Provide care for people having a heart attack.
  • Recognise choking and initiate an emergency response in adults and children.
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and know how to manage an anaphylaxis emergency.
  • Provide care for people who are having an asthma attack.
  • Provide care for people who are having seizures.
  • Provide care for people who are having a stroke.
  • Provide care for people who have angina.
  • Provide care for people who have fainted.
  • Provide care for people who have diabetes.
  • Provide care for people who are suspected of having sepsis. 

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:

  • How to perform CPR on adults and children.
  • How to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
