Course Details
- This course takes an in-depth look at the three approaches to decision-making as set out in the Mental Capacity Act.
- You will be presented with a coursebook followed by an assessment with options for feedback and reflection.
- Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a certificate to download.
- If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.
Aims
This course aims to provide learners with an understanding of decision-making in line with regulations.
Objectives
During this course learners will be able to:
- Understand options available when a patient lacks the mental capacity to consent.
- Explore methods in which decisions can be made on the patient's behalf.
- Introduce the Statutory Checklist outlined in the Mental Capacity Act (2005) Section 4.
- Define how the Statutory Checklist can be applied in a case study.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:
- Safeguarding measures used for patients lacking mental capacity.
- How to manage the care of patients who lack the mental capacity to consent.
- How to ensure that practice policies are valid and effective.
