Course Details

  • This course aims to help learners understand the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion within the workplace, providing dental professionals and employers with the knowledge and understanding needed to apply these concepts effectively.
  • You will be presented with a coursebook followed by an assessment with options for feedback and reflection.
  • Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a certificate to download.
  • If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.

Aims

The aim of this course is to provide dental professionals and employers with the knowledge and understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles within the workplace. 

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Introduce the key concepts and importance of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) within the dental practice setting.
  • Explore the legal framework, including the Equality Act 2010, and its implications for dental practices.
  • Provide guidance on fair recruitment processes that promote diversity and prevent discrimination.
  • Explain the legal and ethical responsibilities of employers in making reasonable adjustments for staff and patients, including those with disabilities or language barriers.
  • Understand the importance of addressing and reporting workplace discrimination, including guidance on whistleblowing.
  • Outline the positive actions employers can take to support underrepresented groups and create a more inclusive work environment.
  • Highlight the importance of fostering a culture of respect, fairness, and inclusion across all dental practice roles and patient care.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, learners will be able to : 

  • Understand the importance of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
  • Demonstrate awareness of the legal framework surrounding EDI
  • Identify and implement fair recruitment practices
  • Make reasonable adjustments for employees and patients
  • Address workplace discrimination and promote inclusivity
  • Understand and apply Positive Action principles
  • Identify strategies to support EAL employees, including language support programs and mentorship
  • Implement effective communication strategies, such as using plain English and providing multi-language resources
  • Implement a whistleblowing policy to ensure accountability
  • Foster a culture of respect, fairness, and inclusivity
