- This course takes an in depth look at how to identify and manage problems that arise following a Legionella risk assessment in the dental practice.
- You will be presented with a lecture followed by an assessment with options for feedback and reflection.
- Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a downloadable certificate.
- If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.
Aims
This course aims to go through the steps required to set up management and control of water hygiene within the dental practice.
Objectives
Learners will be able to:
- Manage the risks by understanding the guidance and legislation that applies to water quality safety in the dental practice.
- Detail roles and responsibilities with regard to water quality safety.
- Identify what training is required for the team.
- Identify "why, what, and how" in relation to the formation of a Written Scheme.
- Explain what is required with regard to formation of a Water Safety Group and a Water Safety Plan.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will gain an understanding of:
- Key documentation including L8/HSG274, HTM04-01, HTM01-05, BS850-01, the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH.
- Problems within the Risk Assessment will drive the Written Scheme.
- The Written Scheme's purpose is to reduce risks of harm from Legionella and other waterborne pathogens for all who enter the practice.
- The requirement for the practice to have a Dental Unit Water Line (DUWL) Safety Plan.
- The need to include control limits and an escalation procedure, as well as emergency procedures within the Written Scheme.
- Practice record systems for Legionella control and water quality safety must be compliant with legislation and guidance.
- The DUWL Safety Plan must include decommissioning and recommissioning.
- The definitions of a Water Safety Group (WSG) and a Water Safety Plan (WSP).
