Course Details

  • This course will teach learners how to comply with the blood-borne viruses training requirement of HTM 01-05.
  • You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.
  • Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a downloadable certificate.
  • If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.

Aims

This course will teach learners how to comply with the blood-borne viruses training requirement of HTM 01-05.

Objectives

Learners will:

  • Be able to define what a blood-borne virus is.
  • Understand blood-borne virus transmission.
  • Understand how PPE can help prevent infection from BBVs.
  • Understand why immunizations are required.
  • Know how to handle a sharps injury effectively.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course the learner will gain an understanding of:

  • What is meant by the term BBV.
  • The commonest BBVs of concern.
  • The methods of virus transmission.
  • What type of PPE is required to help prevent the transmission of BBVs.
  • The effectiveness of immunizations.
  • The steps necessary to manage a sharps injury.
