Course Details
- This course takes an in-depth look at the different types of tooth wear. It discusses how to recognise, manage and make informed decisions regarding tooth wear cases.
- You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.
- If you achieve a score of 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a certificate to place in your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident to do so.
Aims
This course aims to equip learners with the knowledge and understanding to allow them to recognise, manage, and make appropriate decisions regarding different types of tooth wear cases, including when to treat, monitor or refer.
Objectives
During this course learners will be able to:
- Recognise the different types of tooth wear: erosion, attrition, abrasion, and abfraction.
- Identify when non-operative management is appropriate and how to implement effective monitoring and preventive strategies.
- Understand the challenges involved in managing tooth wear, including patient expectations and full-mouth rehabilitation planning.
- Determine when referral is indicated for complex or advanced cases.
- Select appropriate restorative materials based on clinical scenarios and understand how material choice influences treatment longevity and outcomes.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:
- The different types of tooth wear, including erosion, attrition, abrasion, and abfraction.
- When non-operative approaches are suitable and apply appropriate monitoring and preventive strategies.
- The challenges involved in managing tooth wear, including the complexity of full-mouth planning and patient-centred considerations
- When referral is the most appropriate course of action for complex cases.
- Suitable restorative materials, taking into account their properties, longevity, and appropriateness for worn dentitions.
