  • This course takes an in-depth look at why sutures are placed, and what is trying to be achieved by suturing. It discusses the different suture materials, needle types and suturing techniques.
  • You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.
  • If you achieve a score of 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a certificate to place in your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident to do so.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of why sutures are placed, and what is trying to be achieved by suturing. It shall explore with learners the different suture materials, needle types and suturing techniques.

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Outline the different suture materials. 
  • Discuss needle types, shapes and sizes.
  • Analyse and discuss different suturing techniques such as interrupted suture, horizontal/vertical mattress suture, continuous/continuous locked suture and the sling suture.
