Course Details

  • This course is designed to support dental performers and dental teams in the accurate, ethical, and compliant delivery of NHS dental services, with a particular focus on the interpretation and application of NHS regulations, contracts, and claiming requirements.
  • You will be presented with a coursebook followed by an assessment with options for feedback and reflection.
  • Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a certificate to download.
  • If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.

Aims

The aim of the course is to help develop the understanding of NHS contracts and regulations in respect to claiming. 

Objectives

By engaging with this course, dental performers and dental teams will be able to:

  • Interpret and apply NHS dental contracts, regulations, and guidance across a wide range of clinical scenarios
  • Submit NHS claims that are accurate, timely, and fully supported by clinical records
  • Distinguish between banded courses of treatment, urgent care, Regulation 11, continuation, free repair, incomplete, and phased claims
  • Apply correct claiming principles to complex and high-risk areas, including periodontal care, indirect restorations, appliances, and urgent treatment
  • Understand how contract monitoring, CDS data, and Vital Signs reports are generated and used by commissioners
  • Recognise and reduce behaviours that may trigger commissioner queries, audits, or clawback
  • Apply ethical, legal, and governance principles to NHS claiming in line with GDC Standards, CQC regulations, and NHS England expectations
  • Support effective team working by understanding the roles of dental care professionals (DCPs) in shared courses of treatment and claiming

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Apply NHS dental regulations to clinical decision-making and claiming
  • Submit accurate and compliant NHS dental claims across all treatment bands
  • Correctly manage urgent, Regulation 11, continuation, free repair, and phased claims
  • Support claims with appropriate records, consent, and clinical justification
  • Reduce audit risk through ethical, compliant NHS claiming practice
