• This course takes a look at the preparation of the surgical environment and patient for treatment under conscious sedation.
• You will be presented with a coursebook followed by an assessment with options for feedback and reflection.
• Once you have achieved a mark of 80% or more, you will be presented with a certificate to download. 
• If you do not pass you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with an overview of how to prepare the environment and patient for treatment under conscious sedation. 

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

• Explain how to prepare patients for treatment under conscious sedation.
• Recognize how to manage risks to the environment when providing inhalation sedation.
• Describe the different types and safety features of an inhalation sedation machine.
• Describe how to check an MDM inhalation sedation machine before treatment.
• Recognize how to implement good infection control measures when providing dental care under conscious sedation.
• Correctly identify two types of monitoring equipment used for treatment under conscious sedation and the checks necessary before treatment.
• Discuss the role of the second appropriate person when providing treatment under intravenous sedation.
