Course Details

  • This course takes an in-depth look at the vital role dental hygienists and therapists (DHTs) play in providing care for patients with special needs, particularly within Paediatric and Special Care Dentistry. The patient care pathway from a DHT perspective and their scope of practice, is discussed.
  • You will be presented with a short presentation followed by an assessment.
  • If you achieve a score of 80% or more, you pass the course and will receive a certificate to place in your CPD folder. If you do not pass, you will have the opportunity to review the content and retake the assessment when you feel confident to do so. 

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the essential role dental hygienists and dental therapists have in caring for patients with special needs. The shared care pathway particularly within Paediatric Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry within Community Dental Services is discussed.

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Identify the key role of dental hygienists and dental therapists (DHTs) in Paediatric Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry, particularly in Community Dental Services.
  • Explore the patient care pathway from a DHTs perspective, including their scope of practice and integration within the dental team.
  • Gain insight into the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in delivering effective and inclusive dental care.
